Term Paper Proposal on Parthenon
Paper Proposal Name of Student: Class, date & school: Subject: Tentative title: ARC 2701 ââ¬â History of Architecture I On-line Class ââ¬â Spring 2013 Florida International University The Parthenon, Iktinos and Kallilrates, Athens, Greece, 447 ââ¬â 432 B. C. E. ââ¬Å"The Architectural Perfection of The Parthenonâ⬠Description: The Parthenon has the reputation of being ââ¬Å"the most perfect Doric temple ever built. â⬠And by looking at it with the naked eye, one could most certainly agree.A closer look at the Parthenonââ¬â¢s structure and proportions reveals that there is not a single straight line within the temple; that small fact alone is what sparked my interest in this topic. The genius architects truly out did themselves with the clever use of optical refinements to create a structure that truly resembled perfection. This section will examine the architectural uses of entasis and the various other methods of optical trickery present in the Parthenon.T he skillful approach at these methods by the architects is responsible for the aesthetic perfection of the structure. In addition, I will explore the geometric irregularity that starts at the base, or stylobate of the structure and is a common theme carried on throughout the Parthenon. The temple begins with a foundation that is only of rectangular origin and more resembles a dome shaped floor. I will continue to explore the slight adaptions made by Iktinos and Kallikrates to further perfect the internal structure of the temple. These adaptions include small details of varying column diameter and spacing due to the positioning and lighting of the columns in reference to the structure. These minute modifications and illusions created by the architects were able to keep the Parthenonââ¬â¢s structure seemingly perfect regardless of the time of day, or angle the structure was being viewed from. Lastly, I will explore even more subtle features that truly awe the minds of admirers. Thes e include the specific positioning of corner columns with platforms lower to the ground than those in the middle.Along with examination of the columns out on the peristyle as they are tapered and slightly curved towards the top giving viewers an image where the columns seem thicker and swollen towards the roof, seeming as if the columns are distressed just by supporting the massive weight of the roof. These perfect imperfections and optical illusions put into place by Iktinos and Kallicrates are what make the Parthenon the pinnacle of Greek temple architecture.Bibliography: Darling, Janina K. Perspectives On Managing And Organizing Education Essay
Experiential larning provides a phenomenon where direction as a acquisition procedure is applied for single workers, squad edifice and organisational constructions ( Bartik 2001 ) . It provides a holistic and dynamic attack in direction through entrepreneurial acquisition, scheme preparation, job resolution, decision-making and leading. Experiential acquisition as applied in direction has hence been instrumental in planing managerial instruction plans, developing and development. It is peculiarly important in determining the behaviour of persons with regard to existent experiences that they go through at their several workplace in relation to their personal ends and aims. Employees are motivated to work at the organisational degree by the grade to which their personal and calling aspirations are applied. The direction of different organisations hence needs to actuate their employees by making an environment that promotes their public assistance for the common benefit. The acquisition manners utilised towards beef uping direction in organisations benchmark both the experiences of directors and work force ( Brockett & A ; Merriam 2007 ) . It is every bit of import that personal acquisition manners are le in the procedure of geting dynamic cognition and preparation. Through entrepreneurial acquisition, cognition is acquired which is so complimented by the assimilating phases that includes scheme preparation. Entrepreneurial acquisition incorporates ways of working chances that are good to both workers and the direction. Persons are benefit from experiential larning in direction by constructing the capacity to place jobs in their lives after which declarations are designed to work out them based on the existent challenges that follow the implicit in experiences. In pull offing organisations, the leading seeks to work out jobs which interfere with the end product of their concerns. The acquisition styles that steer the procedure are benchmarked on a proper apprehension of the managerial behaviour, squad edifice and organisational construction. Individual are able of geting cognition through a careful observation of their experiences in add-on to their interaction with their milieus. Peoples are so in a place to measure their experiences in life in order to do of import determinations meant to work out their jobs. Since acquisition is a procedure of geting cognition, the procedure of interrogating day-to-day life experiences from the position of one ââ¬Ës ends and aims so invent his/her individuality consequently ( Moon, 2004 ) . Peoples are so directed in their lives by the subsequent picks that they make to react to the accompanying challenges. Experiential larning hence establishes an luxuriant agencies of transforming experiences into cognition which is appropriate to single aspirations. Learning in general seeks to enlarge the cognition base of information. This requires that the information is stored for future mention or otherwise memorized. The accomplishments and facts acquired during the learning procedure should authorise scholars in work outing their day-to-day jobs through using them suitably. Persons have a natural ability to larn from their experiences ( Griffin, 2003 ) . It therefore explores a method of obtaining information by larning from experiences. The cognition is so acquired and transformed to work out jobs that persons have every bit good as the environmental concerns. Experiential acquisition is a uninterrupted procedure that incorporates the experience with theory, contemplation every bit good as solutions. Experiential acquisition is based on the rule that persons learn better from their personal experiences. People ââ¬Ës actions in this theory are more of import than what they have been taught ( Moon, 1999 ) . It hence employs a learning procedure that is self fulfilling and gratifying in order for the scholars to confront the challenges suitably. It besides empowers the persons with the ability to go originative and advanced. The theory of experiential larning hence based on firsthand experience and observation. Contemplation in experiential acquisition is really critical ( Silberman, 2007 ) . I t provides the nexus between the existent life experiences and theoretical constructs. Participants in the acquisition procedure are given an chance to interact with each other with an purpose of larning from one another. An person is besides expected to measure his advancement within the squad with a position of developing oneself at the terminal. This is peculiarly utile larning since it equips persons with the possible to grok thoughts easy. This is due to the fact that workers are engaged in several activities at the same clip. As a consequence they require such group activities to animate their acquisition procedure with upper limit end product out of each session ( Hillier, 2002 ) . This is besides because the professionals are able to interact with the acquisition phenomenon firsthand from familiar experiences that could steer their contemplation. Both the content of the acquisition procedure and the relevant experience that is applicable to the scholar are explored. The immediate personal experience provides the foundation for acquisition because it provides a familiar relationship to the theoretical constructs being discussed. Any new thoughts being discussed can hence be verified against these known experiences for their cogency ( Brockett & A ; Merriam, 2007 ) . The experiences can besides be understood better through a witting contemplation. Experiential acquisition is typically a uninterrupted procedure that combines existent touchable experiences through contemplation to academic theories in order to calculate current and future events. This may include the procedure of larning about market and corporate kineticss for the end of forming and pull offing concerns. No instructor is involved but the scholar additions knowledge by interacting with the environment straight thereby being able to do personal finds without looking at others ââ¬Ë experiences ( Moon, 1999 ) . In order for the scholar to profit from this sort of exposure instruction, he/she should be able to take part proactively in the experience. Another basic constituent entails the scholar ââ¬Ës possible to reflect on each and every item of the experience ( Nasta, Gray & A ; Gray, 2000 ) . In order to grok the experience to the full, the scholar should possess critical fact-finding accomplishments in order to examine the issues being experienced. Then the scholar needs to hold the accomplishments to cover with hard scenarios every bit good as doing wise picks. This is really utile in authorising the scholar with the possible to work the experiences involved in existent life state of affairs. This becomes even more indispensable to directors and their subsidiaries alike who find the experiences a feasible resource stuff for mention when work outing daily jobs every bit good as doing life determinations. However, these experiences can be to the full utilized if they are understood within the context of formal larning otherwise general experiences may stop up being applied wrongly ( Doyle, MacDonald & A ; Leberman 2006 ) . Therefore experiential acquisition on its ain may take to generalisations, stereotypes and bias when scholars make decisions from their experiences. On the manus, experiential larning becomes really utile in assisting persons educate themselves about their best manner to run into personal demands, wants and demands through direct experience. Persons take parting in this sort of acquisition should possess personal enterprise and regular rating of their experiences in order to efficaciously prosecute in the procedure. The procedure requires that scholars at the inset set their ends and aims which are meant to steer them in measuring their experiences. Evaluation entails doing relevant observations, contemplation and the ultimate determination devising. There is besides a constituent of enjoyment in experiential larning characterized by athleticss and games ( Zounkova D, Franc & A ; Martin, 2004 ) . The serves to maintain the lessons obtained in the acquisition procedure for a good period of clip. The societal forums created by the athleticss encourage squad work, communicating and leading. When scholars are personally involved in the experiential acquisition procedure, they are able to appreciate their endowments and gifts within a communal and gratifying scene. As a consequence, those easing the experiential acquisition should be rather surpassing in footings of prosecuting the scholars in procedure to the full. This demands that the facilitator provides leading by active engagement every bit good as promoting the squad members to work the environment to the upper limit. They should brainstorm the heads of their co-workers to believe in tandem to the set ends and aims. Emphasis is hence put on an person ââ¬Ës personal growing and development through escapade in the mark environment ( Hillier, 2002 ) . The attack seeks to authorise the personal rational, emotional, physical and religious well-being. The person ââ¬Ës senses are put to pattern in the acquisition procedure prosecuting the encephalon, the eyes, the bosom, the lingua and the custodies. This means that the whole being of a individual is engaged in a holistic acquisition procedure. Persons so interact with each other constructing relationships and furthering character development and individualism. This signifier of acquisition is peculiarly effectual in grownup acquisition and direction. The grownups have fundamentally gained experience in the immediate yesteryear which is relevant in experiential acquisition procedure when covering with present challenges. Tangible experience is related to theoretical constructs through contemplation and dynamic tests ( Moon, 1999 ) . The grownup scholars utilize their immediate experiences through acute observation and brooding thought to pull relevant constructs about the past events in their finding of future programs. The four phases are integrated procedures that follow each other in the experiential grownup larning procedure. Learners are invariably involved in set uping personal experiences that are related to the current environment being evaluated within a societal cultural apparatus. This properly defines the best position to prosecute in womb-to-tomb learning procedure. It provides a forum for the grownups to develop the society through their personal experiences in position of the current challenges. Experiential acquisition besides provides an chance to develop the grownups ââ¬Ë callings after their formal acquisition in schools. Their work experience is peculiarly of import when seeking for publicities at their workplace and leading in the society as an chance to foster their callings. The procedure of experiential larning hence develops a individual ââ¬Ës overall mentality and societal relevancy. This manner of acquisition is really of import in finding the sequence of events in a peculiar state of affairs particularly when discoursing possibilities of work outing a job. From this form of events, a general shaping rule can be established to explicate the state of affairs ( Silberman, 2007 ) . The actions that characterize the response to the state of affairs and several other related events provide the implicit in rule. When a similar state of affairs arises or some other related scenario, this rule is applied in specifying the stairss which can be exploited to work out them within that context. This is an of import signifier of larning to grownups particularly those in direction places. This is because they are able to do wise judgements by transporting out a critical contemplation on issues based on old experiences in direction. The grownups are able to expect future results by linking similar actions that occurred in their past experiences at work or in societal forums. Despite of this baronial acquisition procedure, the generalisation of issues may take to erroneous decisions which could damage the credibleness and unity of peculiar cover determination devising processs ( Griffin, Holford & A ; Javis, 2003 ) . Above all, scholars in direction have their ain strengths and failings which they are familiar with. This when coupled to their ain experiences which they are easy for them to use, forms a comfy acquisition atmosphere to derive personal cognition. Management as a acquisition procedure besides exploits relevant experiences that are practical in nature such as the application of larning manners by portfolio directors in investing banking. The implicit in attack seeks to analyze the mode in which the portfolio directors are able to use the subsequent job resolution and determination devising accomplishments in forming assets in their portfolios ( Checkoway 2007 ) . The investing subdivisions of a bank which are usually demanding in footings of the big discretional histories and clients with a hazard disposition so steer the investing directors in determination devising. They really achieve the position utilizing suiting larning manners such as active experimentation and concrete experiences in rapprochement of histories. On the manus, other subdivisions of a bank such as the personal trust section with lower public presentation and hazard outlooks every bit good as fewer discretional histories so inform the directors on larning manners that incorporate brooding observation and active conceptualisation in determination devising. The several directors with acquisition manners face-to-face to each other had different experiences in their direction acquisition ; the concrete directors preferable people in the signifier of fellow workers, agents and business communities in their direction portfolios. Abstract directors on the manus obtained information relevant in their sections through analytical informations from beginnings such as company reappraisal and economic analysis ( Pettigrew 2003 ) . The concrete directors really preferred information that was utile in doing specific recommendation to a job with regard to investing banking. It was besides deserving observing that abstract directors arrived at a decisive decision from beginnings of information that they could straight analyse with regard to investing dimensions. As a consequence, abstract directors have a inclination to utilize so much information in their analysis in order to get at a determination as compared to their concrete opposite numbers in the same investing banking ( McGill & A ; Weil1989 ) . A situational analysis reveals that experiential larning in investing banking enables directors to be sensitive in their feelings towards other people particularly their clients and other stakeholders who matter in their plans. This really empowers them with an open-minded attack in their lives and managerial callings. This is so followed by job analysis with regard to investing state of affairss which so strengthens understanding in work outing jobs. The principle follows a position that recognizes people ââ¬Ës ideas and feelings in order to set up of import sentiments to be made that decide direction challenges. Those persons that participate successfully in this analysis develop a character profile with of import values such as forbearance, equity and resourceful thought. The subsequent experiences are utilized in solution analysis where possibilities are created for practical solutions to underlying following the precedency already established in the old phases. A solution analysis hence generates solution every bit good as their application in deciding jobs ( Sheth & A ; Eshghi 2008 ) . In this procedure, people are prefer rational logical thinking as opposed to mere feelings every bit good as set up theories related to underlying state of affairs ( in this instance investing banking ) than look intoing established facts. Directors are concerned with systematic organisation of issues, quantitative analysis and theoretical use of constructs in concern. As a affair of fact, the ensuing result of their idea forms follows a rigorous standard of analysing thoughts and later organizes their systems in investing portfolios for the common benefit of the concern and clients. What follows so is the execution analysis which is characterized by the procedure of placing undertakings that are portion of the solution analysis into a logical program characterized by relevant clip frames with appropriate rating schemes. Mechanisms are established to promote clients for case to put more in stocks and to mortgage installations alternatively of pyramid strategies that could put on the line their pecuniary additions in unbarred ventures. Directors who are able to interrogate issues to this degree derive practical cognition of their concern challenges and state of affairss that confront their dynamic markets ( Partin 2008 ) . These directors finally obtain practical applications of their theoretical cognition in order to act upon fellow co-workers. In kernel the directors taking advantage of active experimentation happen it easier to use abstract solution to their jobs and their organisations. In the universe of investing banking, the directors are able to innovatively plan practical solutions through a situational analysis and the subsequent execution protocols. They are really capable of taking manageable hazards in order to accomplish their ends and aims in add-on to their passion to see an impact of their Bankss in the surrounding environment ( Griffin, Holford & A ; Jarvis, 2003 ) . Through corporate societal duties, the directors are capable open uping local investing into enterprises that lead to poverty obliteration. They are influential in converting managers on of import council chamber determinations that create investing enterprises for other corporate every bit good as little and average endeavors. Since experiential acquisition follows a paradigm that values squad edifice, directors who are donees of the preparation value the part of their co-workers in benchmarking concern investings related to banking every bit good as research and development of their portfolios towards competitory advantage in the market ( Hillier 2002 ) . Team constructing characterized by larning from one another ââ¬Ës experiences enables for self rating and brainstorming techniques to be applied with a high grade of answerability and transparence. In order to larn from diverse experiences in a squad, the squad really builds itself from constructive duologue which allows for members to reflect about their single experiences together. As a consequence of contemplation, preservation and corporate duty and active question of single experiences, practical solutions can be created for the benefit of the full society. Members are encouraged to interact as equals in group treatments where they brainstorm on issues in their environment and peculiarly in their investing Bankss. The groups every bit do research in their niche markets on their clients with leading from directors with diverse experiential acquisition in order to incorporate dynamic thoughts in determination devising ( Moon 2004 ) . The directors are able to help the squads to develop an image unique to their organisation by spearheading a corporate treatment on different members ââ¬Ë experiences. As a consequence of the fruitful treatments, the directors are able to transfuse in the squad some sense of corporate duty in the subsequent determinations that affect their organisation. In kernel, the directors integrate in the workers through responsible leading, an apprehension that all of them belong to the company and their aspirations and ends in life every bit affair ( Silberman 2007 ) . Investings in the bank are more likely to better when the employees are trained to believe in the vision and mission of the organisation every bit good as guided on how to incorporate their single experiences and aspirations into the broader image of the investing authorization. For case, the workers ââ¬Ë calling aspirations can be developed more suitably when the bank through squad edifice recognizes endowments and capablenesss of its staff in their determination devising procedure. Monetary awards are non plenty in actuating the bank workers to execute better and honest in their projects. The workers ââ¬Ë household and calling aspiration is fundamentally a major ingredient of their direct experiences which could act upon the overall end product of the organisation. The directors fundamentally provide the executive consciousness required to steer the interaction procedure within the squad with maximal regard and focal point ( Nasta, Griffin & A ; Gray 2000 ) . It is of import that the workers are guided into fruitful deliberations with a batch of regard with one another ââ¬Ës experiences. When the civilization of common regard is developed in the squad, members become receptive to their co-workers points of position which so lead to proper contemplation on the subsequent determination for the common growing and development of everyone. The squad really develops into a acquisition system with members have a maps that contribute towards continuing the aims of the squad. The directors are left to monopolise leading alternatively they are portion of the squad which assumes shared leading with personal demands being integrated into the squad ââ¬Ës ends. The functions assigned to team members revolve around the investing banking portfolio with others being information searchers, coordinators and others could function as criterions compositors, compromisers, encouragers and group perceivers ( Zounkova , Franc & A ; Martin 2004 ) . Members really preferable executing those undertakings which they were familiar with or otherwise interested in. Despite of this, they were motivated by the squad spirit to execute some responsibilities for the best involvement of the group. As a consequence, the group provides a hospitable infinite for calling growing and expertness among its members. The procedure of experiential acquisition in direction of the banking industry besides allows for the creative activity of occupations through enlargement of concern chances to the young person. The investing portfolio is hence guided by its part to the society as a consequence of the fruitful deliberations that involve the full members of the community. The banking involvements in furthering fiscal growing in the environing community is paramount and squad edifice ensures that the merchandises provided by the establishment ( Silberman 2007 ) . For case husbandmans can be financially empowered through loans that enable them to purchase farm inputs such as seeds and fertilisers in order to guarantee that the end product of their agricultural green goods is sustainable with high net income borders. Students can every bit be supported through experiential acquisition to develop a holistic attack in calling patterned advance. The Bankss are every bit positioned good to widen educational loans and grants to the pupils with minimum involvement rates for their common benefit. Management as a acquisition procedure is hence sustained as a procedure of accommodating to the day-to-day challenges that confront the society particularly in elating their life criterions. Action Plan affecting economic research Economic research is of import in finding the extent to which the benefits of an industrialised economic system are to both the urban and rural scenes. Economic determinations are ever made by political leaders in authorities and people in direction ( Bartik, 2001 ) . Since most of the industries are based in urban scenes, there is sporadic rural-urban migration taking to congestion in major metropoliss. The limited resources particularly in lodging, infinite, employment and sanitation have lead to an addition in the degree of poorness every bit good as an addition in condemnable activities. Directors hence need to take advantage of the available statistics which demand for increased support into urban centres with a position of bettering the societal installations in order to avoid wellness hazard from happening ( Bartik, 2001 ) . Facilities such as schools, infirmaries, prisons and societal amusement articulations require periodic rating and upgrading in order to back up the increasing populations. The authorities may every bit see set abouting economic plans which promote private concerns in order to cut down poorness degrees and empower personal investings in coevals of employment. Such little and average endeavors are managed by people with small preparation in concern direction. The authorities should therefore explore economic research into ways of preparation concern proprietors for such little and average ventures with a position of fiting them with necessary accomplishments on current engineerings ( Bartik, 2001 ) . Research into the state of affairs is really important in steering the procedure of policy doing within authorities. Such policies are utile because some dependable statistics are available to steer the procedure. It is hence of import that a proper analysis is done to happen out the possibility of relocating some industries to rural countries in order to authorise the destitute populations at that place economically. It is non just for authorities to pass immense fiscal investings in traditional sectors of the economic system that can non be widening to suit the increasing populations. They are besides located within urban centres merely go forthing rural dwellers enduring in rampant poorness. It could look expensive to set up new industries for case in rural countries but this type of venture nowadayss instead a lasting solution to the marginalized province of the economic system in the distant scenes ( Bartik, 2001 ) . These demands that equal resources are budgeted in the nationally in order to finance substructure undertakings meant to open up rural countries for both authorities and private investings. There is besides need for authorities subsidies and revenue enhancement releases for economic activities already based in rural countries. Agricultural-based industries could be set up in rural scenes because there are available natural stuffs that can be when the necessary substructure is in topographic point ( Bartik, 2001 ) . As such, economic research is really relevant in steering authorities intercessions in cut downing poorness degrees every bit good as coevals of wealth across the board. It is hence of import for policy shapers to understand the kineticss associated with both urban and rural scenes. Other factors important for the economic research include the literacy degrees and acceptance of engineerings in the assorted scenes. When the authorities ends within the its vicinity as a state succeeds in accomplishing their aims in eliminating poorness every bit good as create employment chances for all, they every bit open up their states for direct foreign investings ( Bartik, 2001 ) . This therefore means that economic productiveness could come on with equal distribution of resources. The authorities general financial policies are based on dependable informations about the worlds on the land every bit good as the planetary political tendencies. Decision Experiential acquisition is hence an of import parametric quantity that informs research, instruction and direction for the well-being of society. Experiences that people have in different environments, when integrated into the common ends of the community, boosts development enterprises. Resources including human work force are efficaciously managed when diverse experiences are exploited for the common good of everyone. As a consequence of this worthwhile acquisition paradigm, direction in such fiscal establishments as Bankss can be efficaciously done as noted through squad edifice for the intent of non merely increasing investings but besides cut downing poorness and making occupations. The overall consequence is the betterment of the people ââ¬Ës life criterions. Mentions list Bartik, J. , T.2001. Jobs for the hapless: can labour demand policies help. Nutrition & ethics in criminal justice - Essay Example What this means is that the areas have toxic and radioactive wastes which were left looming in after wars. When the soldiers are exposed to this kind of toxic wastes, then it is obvious that the health system of the soldiers is affected by them and this causes them to have little endurance. The toxins, when inhaled, are circulated throughout the body by blood and since the blood will be deprived of some oxygen, it is obvious that the toxins will cause the body to lose energy which it gets from the oxygenated blood (Jeremy 67). In addition to the toxic waste residues, the sand particles are also a possible cause for the weakness and fatigue among the soldiers. This is because once they inhale the sand particles, there is a likelihood that they will have respiratory problems, such as congestion. The congestion of the respiratory system causes them to stress their lungs since the body will still need the same amount of oxygen filled blood that it normally gets when breathing. Utilitarianism is a forward-looking or consequentialist theory that focuses on the outcomes or results of actions. The idea of utilitarianism stems from the claim that humansââ¬â¢ greatest and most natural achievement is the maximization of happiness. However, this theory does not go without fault. I has some loose ends that accommodate for its criticism. The outcomes of the utilitarian framework have to be good so that they can outweigh the negative which is punishment. For the purpose of justifying punishment, the utilitarians focus on three outcomes which are deterrence, incapacitation, and correction. Deterrence refers to the refrain from doing things simply because the consequences of doing that thing are quite unpleasant. According

Fitness Report - Essay Example There are several effects that arise from Diabetes II. They include nerve damage, eye damage, heart disease and kidney damage. Also, diabetes quickens the narrowing and hardening of arteries, which usually leads to coronary heart disease and strokes. Diabetic people have higher mortality rates due to complications that result from the diabetes than non-diabetic people. According to Fox and Kilvert (65), the main causes of onset-diabetes include insufficient insulin in the blood, and abnormal insulin; thus, does not function properly. Also, diabetes II develops when the body starts resisting insulin, and when pancreas fails to generate enough insulin. Several studies have shown that Diabetes II is partly reversible. For instance, a study conducted by the School of Medicine in the U.S, showed that Diabetes II is in part an autoimmune disease. The B cells occur in the inflammation of the visceral fat that comes before diabetes, and controlling them using drugs can prevent insulin resistance; hence, reversing the diabetic condition. Lifestyle choices that one can make to prevent or slow down the onset of Diabetes II include regular exercises, which can improve insulin sensitivity, controlling weight since even a small weight loss of about 7% of the total body weight can prevent diabetes, and reduction of carbohydrate intake. Diabetes II patients are responsible for much of their care, which can be made easy by setting diabetes goals for weight, blood sugar levels, cardiac, and exercise goals. For the weight, a person should aim to maintain a healthy weight for their body type and height. Also, they should follow the blood sugar targets and the cardiac targets set by the National institute of Health (Fox and Kilvert

As years went by, the Island of Cuba gradually developed into one of the most booming and substantial Latin American nation with specialties like lush plantations, coffee and its all time favorite tobacco. However, on the other hand, for almost a period of 50 years, the Caribbean nation has continuously been engaged in this courageous battle that involves its super power neighbor, the United States of America.1 In an ongoing effort towards the so called nationalization of private property in Cuba, America has performed one of the longest travel and as well as economic blockades against any specific nation. Finally after passing away of a 50 yearââ¬â¢s milestone, global community seems to be almost united with a belief that these sanctions against Cuba have actually failed drastically. A step furth er, the world is now wondering as to why these American policies continue to this day. To gain a full understanding to the conflict between the United States and Cuba, we must talk about the situation that prevailed well beyond this recent 50-year deadlock and analyze aspects that emerged after the Spanish-American War. In 1898, Cuba emerged as a territory of the US, along with Philippines, Guam and Puerto Rico. Not much time had passed that in the year 1902, Theodore Roosevelt who was then the US President permitted Cuba to declare its independence as a free state. However certain terms and conditions were applied. He made an agreement with the new formed government, securing two of the major advantages. One, America holds the right to oversee Cubaââ¬â¢s financial and international affairs. Two, he also asked for leasing of a naval base located at Guantanamo Bay.2 As we further look into the provisions and focus on the enlarged scope of the embargo, it is noticed that the United States had placed its initial sanction and restriction on the country, Cuba in the year 1960. This was done via restrictions placed on the importations of sugar cane from Cuba. This first sanction was imposed as an answer to the step taken by the Cuban government of nationalization of foreign assets as well as other organizations. This angered the United States as most of these businesses belonged to the citizens of the United States. Since then, the US government authorities have extended such sanctions against Cuba. As a result, today it can be observed that the trade embargo has eventually broadened into an entire comprehensive set of financial, economical and commercial sanctions which are documented within regulations such as Act of 1917: Trading with the Enemy, Act of 1961: Foreign Assistance, Assets Control Regulations of Cuba (1963), Cuban Democracy Act (Torricelli Act 1992), The Trade Sanctions Reform (2000), and the 2000 Act of Export Enhancement.34 Several other sanction s and restrictions were further imposed due to which this Cuban embargo is known as a ââ¬Å"comprehensive set of US sanctionsâ⬠imposed on a nation. The restrictions that were imposed in the embargo had major impacts on the social and basic rights of people. This set of so called laws helped towards deprivation of Cuba from availing technological developments, medicines, substances for purifying water, food as well as electrical power. Not only this, economic rights were also neglected and added to the negative impact of the embargo. It extensively affected the environmental and socioeconomic aspects of

STRATEGIC CHANGE MANAGEMENT Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
STRATEGIC CHANGE MANAGEMENT - Assignment Example Hard elements are easily identified and defined, and management can influence them directly. These elements include strategy, structure as well as systems. On the other hand, soft elements are skills, shared values, and staff. In addition, soft elements are more intricate to describe, less tangible as well as influenced by culture more. Nevertheless, these soft elements are as essential as the hard elements of an organisation to be successful (Smillie & Hailey 2001). Burke & Litwin Causal Model of Organizational Performance and Change propose linkages that theorize the way performance is determined by external and internal factors. It offers a framework to evaluate organizational together with environmental aspects that are successful change keys and it illustrates how these dimensions must be causally linked to attaining a change in performance. Kurt Lewin came up with a change model with three steps: unfreezing, changing as well as refreezing. The model symbolises a quite simple but practical model for getting to understand the change process. These steps are: Unfreezing that entails decreasing those forces that drive behaviour currently, acknowledgment of the need for change and occurrence of improvement. Changing, that is, development of new behaviour or attitudes and the change implementation. The third stage is refreezing that entails stabilising and reinforcing change at the new level (Smillie & Hailey 2001). The 7-S model bases on hypothesis that, for a company to perform well, the seven elements must be aligned as well as mutually reinforced. Thus, the model can be utilized to assist to find out the needs to be realigned to enhance performance or to sustain alignment, as well as performance all through other forms of change. Whatsoever the kind of change e.g. restructuring, organizational merger, new processes, new systems, leadership

Gender and Sexual Orientation Personal Statement
Gender and Sexual Orientation - Personal Statement Example Question 1: Sexism Sells In the video developed by the Womenââ¬â¢s Media Center, the current treatment of women by the media in broadcasts and other shows was highlighted. The greatest point raised by the video was that sexism has become the new trend in the broadcast media. This popularity of sexism stems from the idea that ââ¬Å"sexism sellsâ⬠. However, the creators of the video disagreed that sexism sells, and that discrimination of females is still very pervasive in todayââ¬â¢s society. More specifically, the WMC stated that ââ¬Å"they were not buying [sexism]â⬠. As for me, I agree with the video. When I first watched some of the clips in the television, some of them appeared hilarious. Indeed, at first, I did not realize that they were sexist. However, after viewing the video, I realized that some of the comments indeed, were rather discriminatory, especially when the broadcasters labeled Hillary Clinton within the stereotype of a nagging wife. I am not essentially a feminist but I str ongly believe that some of the comments by the broadcasters were stupid and unfair. In fact, they displayed some sort of microaggression wherein it was as if they were projecting their negativities about women towards a single person who, at that time, happened to be Hillary Clinton. As portrayed in the video, I totally agree that sexism has now evolved to take a more insidious and subtle form. Perhaps the sadder part is that some of the discrimination are unintentional, and some are even unaware that they are not doing any form of sexism. Question 2: Kimmel: ââ¬Å"Bros before Hosâ⬠The quote to be analyzed in this section is the one in Page 55: ââ¬Å"There is only one complete unblushing male in America: a young, married, white, urban, northern, heterosexualâ⬠¦ Any male who fails to qualify may view himself as unworthy, incomplete, and inferiorâ⬠. This quote can be found in the section involving the psychological development of boys, or where the Guy Code Begins. Th is quote struck me the most among all the other parts of the readings in ââ¬Å"bros before Hosâ⬠because of the implications and effects of such an event in a maleââ¬â¢s life. Such a system that works even in the earliest days of the boyââ¬â¢s development is something that reflects the sad state of todayââ¬â¢s society. The readings in this section also made me ponder about the upbringings of a male relative. I have a distant male cousin who lived in a farm with his family. Their family rarely goes out of the countryside and when we came to visit, my cousin would often be forbidden from playing with us, because he had to learn to be a man and the process of doing so does not allow for playing. In addition, during a time when my cousin fell and broke an arm, he was not allowed to cry or else he would be called a sissy. From these, I realized that somehow, there is a burden among males to conform to the societyââ¬â¢s definition of what a male is. Still, the fact that males have to be ââ¬Å"boxed-inâ⬠into a certain criteria before they can even begin to feel ââ¬Å"machoâ⬠is rather absurd. Thus, I believe that in this sense, females are a little bit luckier. Indeed, although females have their own stereotypes that they have to fall into, they are freer in discovering their identities because societal norms allow then to reveal much more emotions than those permitted for males. Females are also now given more flexibility in the choice of the roles they want to play in the society, wherein they can now function in roles that were previously exclusively dominated by males. It is also sad to realize that as developments can be observed in the worldââ¬â¢ perception of females, the malesââ¬â¢ perception of themselves remained the same. Therefore, improvement is need so that males may be able as well to create more flexible definitions of flexibility. Question 3: Video Analysis (Impressions) The video on 30 Days ââ¬Å"A Straight Man in a Gay Worldâ⬠is an interesting film. I have known long before that the arguments

A Very Long Engagement by Jean-Pierre Jeunet Movie Review
A Very Long Engagement by Jean-Pierre Jeunet - Movie Review Example A Very Long Engagement is a French romantic war film and the series of awards and accolades that greeted this film makes people that have not watched the film have the feeling that they have missed a lot. The film was the fictional storyline that was based on the experience of some individuals in the concluding stages of the First World War. The film is a must watch for everybody that loves romantic films with a spice of war scenes in it. As earlier said the film won several awards and was nominated for awards in different categories. The film won about eight awards and was nominated (but did not win) about twelve times. The nomination and the awards that the film won show the filmââ¬â¢s quality. A Very Long Engagement is based on a novel written by Sebastien Japrisot in 1991 with the same title and it brings the details of this novel back to life. The film chronicles the search of a young woman named Mathilde Donnay (Audrey Tautou) for her fiance, Manech Langonnet (Gaspard Ulliel ). Manech was one of the soldiers that took part in the First World War. Mathilde was aware that Manech could have been killed during the battle of the Somme during the First World War, but the fact that she still had hope that he was still alive showed the kind of affection that Mathilde had for Manech and this is just one of the ways that the producers of this great film brought the romantic details of the First World War back to life.

Analytic paper on the current state of economic development and its Term
Analytic on the current state of economic development and its system of governance in Somalia - Term Paper Example Somalia has been exacerbated by failed attempts of the international community to restore peace and as such Menkhaus argues that Somaliaââ¬â¢s state collapse at governance level falls into the ââ¬Å"dubious distinction of being the worldââ¬â¢s foremost graveyard of externally sponsored state-building initiativesâ⬠(Menkhaus 74). However, on the other side of the spectrum, Menkhaus highlights the point that notwithstanding the socio-political collapse of Somaliaââ¬â¢s governmental and judicial infrastructure; this is has not prevented economic growth and development particularly at a fragmented local level (Menkhaus 74). Moreover, Menkhaus suggests that the lengthy absence of governance is in fact a significant causal trigger in promoting economic development via joint ventures between business groups, traditional business methods and civic groups (Menkhaus 74). The focus of this paper is to critically evaluate the current state of economic development and its system of governance in Somalia. To this end, it is submitted as a central proposition in this paper that sustained economic development in Somalia is intrinsically dependent on the socio-political backdrop and that therefore implementing meaningful initiatives to restore legitimate governance will go further to sustain stability in economic development in the long term (Cypher & Dietz 22). Therefore, whilst the lack of governance may not have prevented economic development in Somalia per se, it is further submitted that the political instability remains a central barrier to sustained economic development and growth in Somalia in the long term. This proposition is further supported by Menkhausââ¬â¢ argument that ââ¬Å"the repeated failure of top-down efforts to revive Somaliaââ¬â¢s central government must not obscure the significant success of governance-building efforts within some local Somali communitiesâ⬠(Menkhaus 74). Indeed, the post-colonial development of Somalia within the wider context of contemporary

Abraham Maslowââ¬â¢s Hierarchy of Needs Essay Example for Free
Abraham Maslowââ¬â¢s Hierarchy of Needs Essay Aron Ralstonââ¬â¢s physiological need was to satisfy his hunger, thirst, and a need to love and be loved. His desire was to be a father. This gave him a purpose to live. His will to live became greater than dying. But thirst and hunger overcame him to a point where he was saving and sipping his own urine to stay alive. I also believe that he had a divine appointment as he was shown insight into his reproductive future by the vision he had of a son. He was also shown that he was going to lose his arm when he saw the preschool boy being scooped up by a one armed man. I do not know if Aron believed in God or if he even had a relationship with my Lord and Savior or not, but I do think that his spiritual development should have grown through his journey. Hunger can put us in a life or death situation. After hours of driving alone in an unfamiliar city, you finally see a diner where you can eat. Even though it looks deserted and a little creepy, you end up stopping because you are really hungry. According to Maslow (pg 407) our need to meet the physiological need of hunger and thirst takes priority over our safety needs prompting us to take risk at times in order to eat. Strategic Business Management and Planning in EasyJet
Strategic Business Management and Planning in EasyJet EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The main objective of topic is the critically evaluate future challenges of EasyJet in the 21st century and recommendation to achieve the goals in future. 1. Introduction: Easy jet is the leading cheapest flight service company in European Airline Companies. The mission of the company is to offer Low cost airline service to the masses. Easyjet was established by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou in 1995 .Easy jet is the fourth leading European airline, the UKs leading budget airline and one that contests the number two LCC in Europe. Easyjet board had been disagreement of extension with his creator sir stellios since last two years (daily mail 2010). Newly joined(2010,July 14th ) chief executive Carolyn McCall with aid of easy jet chairman sir mike rake made a deal with brand licensing (daily mail 2010). She is very fresh for airline industry. Now I am going to critically evaluate how she is going to face future challenges ahead of her. Source: Map of the destination points www.easyjet.com 1. a) Strategy: in art of war book sun Tzu giving answer for what is strategy? A way of thinking; an aware and deliberate process; a concentrated implementation technique; the art of ensuring future success. According to Mintzberg H., (1994) Strategy is a unified, comprehensive, and integrated plan and designed to ensure that the basic objectives of the enterprise are achieved. A strategy or general plan of action might be formulated for broad, long-term, corporate goals and objectives, for more specific business unit goals and objectives. Easy jet believes that people make the difference. Its through the efforts of all our people to deliver our four strategic priorities such as Safety is our No.1 priority, Build Europes No.1 air transport network, Develop a winning customer proposition, Deliver low cost and maximise margins that we will realise our vision: to become the best low fares airline in the world.(Easyjet 2009) 1. b) Strategic Business planning: Strategic business planning serves to bridge the gap between development goals and planning for implementation of specific tactical measure. Internationalization: Welch and Luostarinen (1988), defined as the process of increasing involvement in international markets. Strategic management: Strategic management is an ongoing process that evaluates and controls the business and the industries in which the company is involved; assesses its competitors and sets goals and strategies to meet all existing and potential competitors; and then reassesses each strategy annually or quarterly [i.e. regularly] to determine how it has been implemented and whether it has succeeded or needs replacement by a new strategy to meet changed circumstances, new technology, new competitors, a new economic environment., or a new social, financial, or political environment. (Lamb, 1984: ix). Internationalization and strategic management: Welch and Welch (1996) have tried to develop a longitudinal theoretical model to identify the interrelationships between the two flows of international business inquiry, that is, They give meaning of strategic foundations (knowledge, skills and experience, networks, etc.) of the enterprise and its external environment, and identify planned and unplanned routes to internationalization, with networking important in both. They conclude by calling for empirical studies that specifically focus on strategy and internationalization Process interconnections (Welch and Welch, 1996: 25). Bell et al (1998): Internationalization and Business Strategy EasyJet have influenced by both internal and external environment in any strong grow stage. Internal environment: decision-maker characteristics has more influence in easyjet. We can say particularly sir stellos founder of easyjet and who has 38% share in easyjet. He had been last two years dispute with easy jet board for expansion of easy jet. (Thisismoney,2010).he has no problem with strategy of easy jet. EasyJet announced that it had agreed to purchase the entire share capital of GB Airways from the Bland Group. The deal was worth à £103.5 million and was used to expand EasyJet operations at London Gatwick Airport (anna.euro,2007) Easyjet has grown internationally acquiring GB airways on 25 october 2007. Sir stellos not happy with board accounting policy. He didnt like approach of board single cash generating unit. He insisted to be a he macro-economic climate to benefit of all shareholder.(abtn 2009) EasyJet had reached an agreement on the pace of growth with Sir Stelios after he had questioned the strategy. The LCC now plans to increase future capacity by 7.5% per annum, following yearly increases of 15% from 2005 to 2008 and will increase its fleet to 207 aircraft by 2012. Sir Stelios declared himself a lot happier with the carriers shift to a more modest growth strategy and insisted it was more resilient than that of Ryanair, which cancelled a large order with Boeing in 2009, though it will continue to receive aircraft from previous orders for several years to come.then he changed his mind and resign from the board on may 2010 and again start his backward, too much over speed of growth plan(capa 2010) Easy-jet influence by management competencies: No stability management in easyjet due to the action of sir stellos .management changes four year who worked hardly to develop the company Andy Harrison punished by sir stellos who has more share in the company. Sir stellos concentrated on account department he changed account management people. The shake-up will result in all three of the companys top jobs changing within the space of a year, following the departure in May of Jeff Carr, Easyjets chief financial officer(uk.yahoo,2009) .(abtn 2009) http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/easyjet-unveils-management-shake-up-ftimes-9106396619e0.html rapid management change create the conflict between management and employee External environment: Global influence: (Richard L. D,aft 1997 ) explaning that No company out-of-the-way from global influence. All international company influenced by global governing body. OPECs (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) set prices of oil and gasoline. OPECs globally influencing the airline industry.(tucker l,2008) CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and IATA (International Air Transport Association) those bodies regulating the airline industry all over world. BAA is a leading airport monopoly company. We own six airports in the UK including the largest, London Heathrow, and we have interests in a number of others overseas. IATA and CAA fixing or reviewing price fare the airlines(price regulation). EasyJet Claims that (CAA)Regulator Favoured BAA Over Fees and supporting monopoly company(gardian,2009 pg 28) Global warming: Global warming refers to the documented historical warming of the Earths surface based upon worldwide temperature records that have been maintained by humans since the 1880s.Its Is the combined result of Anthropogenic (Human-Caused) emissions of greenhouse gases and solar irradiance in exchange According To The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), The Decade Of The 2000s (2000-2009) Is the warmest one record. The global mean surface temperature for 2009 IS Currently Estimated at 0.44 à ° C/0.79 à ° F above-the 1961-1990 Annual average of 14.00 à ° F C/57.20 (Ecoearth2009), Volcanic ash cloud: Global warming may prompt more hazardous geological events such as volcanoes, earthquakes and landslides, scientists have warned- Prof McGuire (telegraph2010) acid rain: volcanic explosion can change the Earths climate both for short periods and long periods. Volcanoes that release large amounts of sulfur compounds as sulfur oxide or sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere more strongly than those that eject just dust. The sulfur compounds are gases that rise easily into the stratosphere. Once there, they combine with water (limited) available to form a mist of fine droplets of sulfuric acid (volcanoes 2010) Andy Harrison said that Easy Jet is planning to cut CO2 emissions by 50% by 2015.The aviation industry have an excellent record in reducing the environmental footprint of aircraft. Todays aircraft are typically 70% cleaner and 75% quieter than their 1960s counterparts. Now we are planning the next generation that will help towards taking the plane out of the emissions equation. Easy Jet is already setting the environmental standard in the airline industry. Our fleet of 131 aircraft has an average age of only 2.3 years the youngest of any major airline in Europe. We have recently called for over 700 of the dirtiest aircraft to be banned from Europes skies (ecojet2010) Ash cloud crisis: Andy Harrison gave Q3-IMS-2010-Analyst-presentation-final report saying that how global warming affected the easyjet limited. Significant impact on results from volcanic ash 7,000 flights cancelled impacting one million passengers Estimated cost and lost contribution à £65 million Future challenges on 21st century: Drucker p., (2007) observe that In the middle of 19th century they exposed to many radical changes as we compare to this transition period. As during world warII many structural changes have been occured, then here comes the second industrial revolution started. According to Drucker argumentation, the future is not soo far because for the formation of business strategy there are five social and political certaintiesThe collapse of the birthrate in the developed world, changes in the distribution of disposable income and a redefinition of corporate performance, international competitiveness and the rising conflict between economic and political reality. Then he looks at the leadership requirements, the characteristics of information revolution, Productivity of knowledge worker and finally their responsibilities in the system management. Rivals for EasyJet now airberlin grown as a competitor in eroupe region looking share price movement on 3rd November 2010(capa2010a). The Challenge Facing (mccall) tougher has-been made by exchange at Ryanair CEO Michael OLeary WHERE IS planning a move to larger Airports near city centers, scrapping A Strategy is based Solely less-costly, out-of-town airports (businessweek2010) Stability management competence frame in EasyJet. McCall will also want more boardroom stability following a spate of resignations. Chairman Colin Chandler and Finance Director Jeff Carr resigned in 2009, Stelios and his nominee Bob Rothenberg stepped down in May and Cor Vrieswijk, the operations chief, quit two weeks ago after just 3 1/2 years at the company (businessweek,2010) There is a some money changes in management last two years. Globalization impact: The impact of globalization will lead to make a major challenge strategically to culture and language in the environment business Managing Across borders: The main creteria of an organisation is to survive in the 21st century and to succeed the workforce in business environment. Revolution of Information Technology: The usage of internet, e-commerce and wireless are supported by a new world of infrastructure. Security issues and increase demand for knowledge worker in an oranizations. Leadership Challenges Generational leadership managing an older workforce, as well as the digital generation Sustainability Defending todays environment and addressing consumers needs The developing world responding to a changing economy Diversity leading a workforce comprising ethnic minorities, mature workers, etc Globalisation managing an extended workforce, and social responsibility. Organizations facing rapid change, unprecedented global competition, unpredictability and the constant threat of acquisition. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly aware of corporate social responsibility and global sustainability challenges in the broad sense. The 21st century is one in which we will need a servant leaders more than ever. It is difficult, fascinating and full of possibilities. If organizations are to thrive and survive, they must innovate. They need all the energy and creativity of their people. This requires a revolution in culture in the workplace the workplace that limit, deter the poor and those that release energy, enterprise and spirit. They also need to be led by world citizens. The best people want to work for ethical organizations that meet the needs of society and avoid prejudice. Sustainability focus on environment, charity corporate and social safety in EasyJet: Environment: Easyjet is giving high priority for environment safety. To be environmentally efficient in the air and on the ground as well. To lead shapes a greener future for aviation. Charity: EasyJet supports a charity of the year. The airline gives a corporate donation and provides access to staff and passengers to raise funds, and promotes the charity through brand awareness. Following a Europe-wide staff vote, EasyJet is proud to announce that our current charity of the year is the Alzheimers Society. Corporate and social Safety: Safety is our first priority for both customers and staffs. Easyjet aims to provide its customers with safe, good value, point to point air services and believes in the goal of excellence of achievement in all its activities. Easyjet sees starving for excellence in environmental, social and ethical activities as a key behaviour for a successful and sustainable business Recommendation: Entrepreneur: the person who has great vision with innovation with optimistic personality. An entrepreneur is a person in charge of creating value, not only for him, but also for his investors, clients and for the society Entrepreneurship: entrepreneurship, which is defined as the pursuit of opportunities, acquisition of resources, construction of a team and discovery of markets adapted to offer the specific product (Dr.Zacharakis A,2009) Why it is important for Entrepreneurship: Its very important for global entrepreneurship to monitor the projects over all. Loyalty to customer, employee and government also paying right tax. To compete and set the goals to meet the globalization competitor To develop a acquire company. Bell et al.,(1998) state that organic growth and acquisition are good tool to make organization successful in internationally with entrepreneurship skill of management. Strategy: 1 Diversification strategy: Pils F (2009) discussing about Diversification, impact of diversification, advantage of diversification .diversification for company is a form of corporate strategy . It aims to increase profitability through higher sales volume resulting from new products and new markets. Diversification can take place either at the business unit or enterprise level. At the business unit, it is more likely to develop into a new segment of an industry where the company is already at the firm level, very interesting to enter a promising venture outside the scope of Business Unit. Sir stellios have been insisting about future of fleet expansion. When the fleet and the route to increase, we have more customers in the summer (six months) and festivals time, remaining six months, flights are in the ground(Businessweek2010). My opinion sir stellios has matured person in airline industry and also stellos Haji-Ioannou is a member of the New Enterprise, a group established to advise the Conservative Party on business policy (market watch2007). He is not against strategy of the company but against fleet expansion (capa2010) .so McCall can go for other sector diversification expect fleet. She has to considered about rivals also, when rivals increasing the fleet and route, mccall also has go for it. Otherwise she cant compete with her rivals .now easy jet share growing. Now main rival of EasyJet is ryanair share reduced in Europe.(capa2010a). Good news for easyjet: Ryan air, the second airline in the United Kingdom, announced its intention to reduce the ability of winter in the UK by 16% compared to November of 2010, outlining the decision will result in the loss of over 2 million Passengers at airports across the UK during the winter of 2010 on a year-on year basis. (capa2010b). New deal with sir stellos brand licensing ,easy brand not for flight, easyjet can use ther purpose aswell. new deal creates a lot opportunity for new ceo Carolyn mccall .she can go for cobranding, removing ancillary revenues(the so called 75:25 rule), freedom for easyJet to lease-in non easyJet-branded aircraft to meet operational requirements within annual limits without the need for easyJet Group consent, new product and new services.(capa2010c). Strategy 2: According to Sun Tzu art of war: If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. Strategy: 2 divided boards strategy. Its not a best strategy not when the dissenter controls nearly 40% of the voting stock (capa2010) Sir Stelios is used to make his way. He now argues for drawing on growth. In some ways it may be perfectly justified in seeking to improve his win by EasyJet, a company that has not paid any dividends money although it has generated considerable revenue from the IPO, as well as royalty payments. In this regard, his argument against the expansion only up batteries if a more static fleet would turn into immediate dividends and will continue to provide under Sir Stelios strategy slow growth. He probably did his homework, he believes (and other shareholders) would be the winners, if not in the long term, at least in the coming months. However, so far it seems to be still in the minority, as the company continues to occur. If following a public campaign as now seems likely it will surely be disruptive. A public war is not what every company needs. The company is difficult enough as it is. Arguments for and Against Abortion Essay -- Christian Bible Religious
Arguments for and Against Abortion An abortion is also known as a termination, meaning to terminate, to stop. An abortion is when you stop a pregnancy, by removing the foetus from the womb. Many people frown upon abortions, as they see them as the killing of a life. Other people believe that it is a ââ¬Ëpotentialââ¬â¢ life, and that a foetus is not considered to be a child. Some people feel that in a situation where the prospective parents are told their unborn child may be disabled, an abortion is acceptable. The situation mostly frowned upon is abortion for social reasons e.g. the mother cannot afford to bring up the child, is too young to have a child, it is not the right time for having a child. A foetus can be removed from the womb by means of abortion, no later than 24 weeks into the pregnancy. This is presently considered to be the ââ¬Å"point of viabilityâ⬠, as after this time, with the use of modern technology, a foetus is capable of surviving outside the womb. Originally, the point of viability was 28 weeks, but developments in technology have changed this. Doctors consider an abortion to be ââ¬Ëlateââ¬â¢ if it is after 12 weeks into the pregnancy, as the foetus is more difficult to remove than in the earlier stages of pregnancy. A pregnant woman must find two doctors who will grant permission for an abortion, before one can take place. Both doctors need to agree that the pregnancy would be a risk to the motherââ¬â¢s physical or mental state, or cause her or her family injury (a social clause). What the Christian Bible Says ----------------------------- In this section of my essay, I am going to use quotes to show... ...oo young to work full time, they could not support a child financially or run a home. They would be unable to provide the child with itââ¬â¢s basic needs. It may be in some cases of teenage pregnancy, there would be support from parents, and they would help them raise their child. The decision for a young person to have a child, is a very hard one, as they would need to support of others, in order to be able to raise their child. Because of these factors, I feel that teenagers should have the right to abort their pregnancy. However, I disagree with abortions for some social reasons. Someone who has a decent home, and is able to provide for a child, should not abort their pregnancy, as they should be capable of raising their child. A childââ¬â¢s life should not be taken away, just because it is an inconvenience.

Radiation has always been in everyday life even before Roentgen discovered x-ray. The mountains give off natural radiation, other forms of radiation are coal burning power plants, x-rays from a TV, and an airplane ride. The average dose from background radiation is about 360 mrem every year. There are two types of radiation, nonionizing and ionizing radiation. Examples of nonionizing radiation are microwaves and radio waves broadcasting. Ionizing radiation refers to gamma and x-rays. Ionizing radiation means that the rays are able to remove an electron from the atom then ions can be formed. The ions can cause damage when reacting with other atoms. Cells are able to be repaired if low dose are received. However, if cells get a high dose, the cells will be damaged or possibly die. If the cell is damaged permanently then it is referred to as a mutated cell. There are ways to better understand how radiation affects the body when compared to other every day activities. If an occupational worker receives 1 rem per year then is it possible that 51 days is expected to be lost. A person that smokes 20 cigarettes a day takes about 6 years off of their life. People that are overweight by 15% take about 2 years off of their life. In actuality radiation would seem as though it is not any more harmful than other everyday activities people decide to do such as smoke, chew tobacco, or sky dive. The risk of taking days, weeks, years off of ones lives will always be present depending on the activity they choose to be part of. However, radiation exposure in the healthcare field is used to extend the patientââ¬â¢s life by helping them find out what is going on in their body. A patient that comes in with RLQ pain, nausea, and vomiting then an abdomen x-r... ...om the radiation, the source of radiation comes from beneath the patient. Spot fluoroscopy should be utilized to minimize radiation to the patient, radiologist, and radiologic technologist. Radiologist and radiologic technologist must wear a lead apron and thyroid shield. A lead shield is put on the front to protect the radiologist and the tech. (Statkiewicz-Sherer, 1983) Radiation has changed drastically over the past 118 years. Exposures are much quicker, digital imaging is a possibility in most hospitals, and most importantly, radiation protection. Many people have died, some without realizing that they were killing themselves, for the advancement of x-rays. Because of these advancements physicians are able to tell patients what is going on very quickly and without much delay. It is very important to remember the 3 cardinal rules: distance, time and shielding.

Why Hitler Was Invited to Become Chancellor :: Papers
Why Hitler Was Invited to Become Chancellor In 1932 the weaknesses of the Weimar Constitution were clear to all. Due to its careful balance of power and proportional representation, no political leader was strong enough to rule. During this period Germany was effectively being run by 84 year old President Hindenburg. Policy was being set by a tiny group of rich, conservative industrialists and army leaders. The Reichstag offered very little leadership. The heart of the problem was that the Nazis were the largest party. Normally the leader of such a party would become Chancellor, but the other parties in the Reichstag would not work with Hitler. The constitution gave President Hindenburg the right to appoint Chancellor and he did not want Hitler as Chancellor. So month after month there were arguments and back-room deals as different politicians struggled to assemble a workable government. The weakness of the Reichstag would have been a problem even if things had been going well in Germany. But when faced with the chronic problems of the Depression it was disastrous. In the July elections of 1932 the Nazis got their best ever result with 37.3% of the vote (230 seats.) They were now by far the largest party. Hitler demanded to be appointed Chancellor. Hindenburg despised Hitler, but he could see the value of trying to use the Nazis for his own ends. Hindenburg appointed Franz von Papen as his Chancellor. Von Papen had no support in the Reichstag but he hoped he could create a right-wing coalition government with the support of the Nazis and the other right-wing parties in the Reichstag. Hitler refused to co-operate, so Hindenburg called another election. This was a bad election for the Nazis. Apathy was settling in. In Northeim the Nazis were in financial trouble and made a public appeal for party funds. In an attempt to regain support, the SA and leading Nazis went to church en masse and got a Protestant minister to speak for them. They placed advertisements in the local papers and

Essay “Walking or Biking versus Driving a Car”
Walking and Driving Walking is the motion of exerting energy. Driving is the usage of the foot to accelerate from the gas to the break or vice versa. How does walking compare to driving? Which one of the two gives a good feeling afterwards? Is there even a difference between walking and driving? Walking is using the human body to move from one place to another in a certain pace. Walking takes energy. To get energy, food and water is needed in the human body system. To reach a certain destination, walking takes a pretty good amount of time. How is it that walking seems to take longer than driving, even when a person walks at Walking or Biking versus Driving a Car Transportation is the key to survival in our world today . When one is not equipped to travel to and from places in an efficient and timely manner , the repercussions can be severe . Some of the repercussions involved are losing your job or missing an important appointment .This is why we always choose to travel by the fastest method available . Unfortunately , the motorized forms of transportation such as driving a car , holds tremendous negative effects for the person and our environment . We have also lost touch with the simpler , yet more enjoyable forms of transportation from our youth . I am talking about being able to take long walks , or riding my bicycle down the road to get to where it is I want to go . I remember when I was little and attending grammar school at the nearby public school.I fondly recall that each morning , I would hurriedly get dressed and wolf down my breakfast and then my mother and I would walk hand in hand as she took me to school . I was able to bond a lot with my mother during that time . The most memorable times of my life were of taking walks with my mother as we did her errands at local merchants . Each afternoon, I would accompany her to the local grocer , laundry shop ,and other places and then , if I was a really behaved child , my mother would take me to the soda s hop before we headed home. When I got older ,my mother allowed me to walk to school with my friends and classmates . This made going to school even more fun for me because I got to know my neighbors and classmates before class . Going to school was not something I dreaded because it was like a game for me and my friends . These memories are things I treasure from my youth . It was only later on in life that I learned that by walking to my various destinations, I was not only making valuable memories , but I was also keeping myselfà healthy and fit by giving myself the best form of cardiovascular exercise ââ¬â walking.By walking, I allowed myself to breath-in fresh air . The fresh air helped to clean up and strengthen my lungs in the process . I guess this is why even to this day , I always talks walks for nearby errands . I am also a member of an unofficial walking club that meets on weekends at the park for early morning walks . When I reached High School , I was suddenly thru st into a fast paced world that required a faster mode of transportation other than my two feet.Admittedly , talking walks with my friends was great , but we could not afford to be late to school nor take separate buses to school either . The problem was solved when I got my first two-wheeled bicycle at the same time as my friends . I personally enjoyed this activity because it combined my twoâ⬠¦ The idea may sound absurd, but thereââ¬â¢s a legitimate insight behind it. Walking burns calories, which come from foodââ¬âand it takes an enormous quantity of fossil fuels to produce, process, and transport everything that we eat.Add in the other GHGs from agricultureââ¬âeverything from cow manure to emissions from synthetic fertilizersââ¬âand youââ¬â¢ve got a potent global warming cocktail in every glass of milk. But our doppelgangers at the Pacific Institute did their homework, compiling evidence about climate emissions from both cars and food. And they came to the conclusion that walking emits about one-quarter the GHGs of drivingââ¬âearning a partial retraction from Tierney. (You go, PacInst! ) But looking at the numbers, I think that the Pacific Instituteââ¬â¢s numbers are conservative. In fact, I think that when I take a short walk, Iââ¬â¢m being at least 12 times as friendly to the climate as if I drove. Your mileage may vary, of course; but my shoes get about 220 miles per gallon. Here are a handful of reasons why I think that walking look even more climate friendly than the Pacific Instituteââ¬â¢s estimates suggest: What would a walker be doing otherwise? Walking burns calories, but a person also burns calories while driving, or just loafing around. So what matters isnââ¬â¢t the total calories your body burns during a walk, but the marginal calories from walking vs.à driving + whatever else youââ¬â¢d do with your time. CalorieLab gives some helpful clues: for a half-hour walking trip, they estimate that a 176 pound pe rson (the average of the median weights for men and women in the US) burns about 106 extra food calories, compared with a 5 minute drive and 25 minutes of watching TV. This figure is slightly less than the figure the Pacific Institute used. And if you do anything more strenuous than sit on your butt for those 25 minutes, then the food-calorie ââ¬Å"advantageâ⬠of driving narrows even further.
